The Proper Way of Using Electronic Cigarettes

Smoking has always been one of the most popular bad habits that young and old people indulge in because of the satisfaction that they feel they are only able to get through smoking a cigarette. Unfortunately, smoking is also one of the top causes of countless illnesses and medical conditions from a simple sore throat to heart disease to cancer. As a matter of facts, hundreds of thousands of people die each year as a result of medical conditions brought about by smoking.

Fortunately, as more and more people are starting to realize the bad effects that smoking can cause both to smokers and to the people around them, a lot of scientists and researchers are looking for ways on how to provide smokers with healthier alternatives which can, in turn, help them kick the bad habit eventually. Genome Medicine announces ‘Disease metabolomics’ special issue

Next year Genome Medicine will publish a special issue focusing on disease metabolomics. This issue will highlight the rapid advances that have been made in the prediction, detection, understanding and monitoring of human disease by small-metabolite profiling. The issue will be guest edited by Tim Veenstra (NCI Frederick).

The publication of these articles will be coordinated with a series of commissioned reviews and opinions written by leaders in the field including:

Mika Ala-Korpela (University of Oulu, Finland)Jeremy Nicholson (Imperial College London, UK)Julian Griffin (Cambridge University, UK)Jerzy Adamski (Helmholtz Zentrum München, Germany)Oliver Fiehn (University of California Davis, USA).

The editors of Genome Medicine are now accepting submissions of research, method, database and software manuscripts for this special issue.

Dr. William Phillips Saves Man Who Had Heart Attack During Heart Disease Class

Another story that is too weird to believe.

A man giving a lecture about heart disease actually helped save a man who had a heart attack during the lecture.

Dr. William Phillips, a cardiologist from Maine, was giving a lecture about heart disease when he and others in the audience were interrupted by a man who was actually having a heart attack. The quick thinking doctor and a team of nurses rushed to the mans side and are credited with saving his life.

The man was lucky the nurses and doctor were ready and able as he went on to care and is now doing fine. Dr. Phillips was able to finish his lecture after administering the help the man needed.

Its a close call when a heart attack strikes.
