Union launches legal action in bid to block NHS shake-up

Unison has launched a legal bid today to block the Government’s plans for a radical reorganisation of the NHS.

The shake-up, unveiled last month by the coalition Government, will see family doctors take charge of a large chunk of the £110billion healthcare budget. Thousands of manager jobs are due to be cut to slash bureaucracy and save money.

However, the UK’s largest public service union has gone to court in an attempt to block the health service overhaul.

A Unison spokesman said the union wanted to challenge Health Secretary Andrew Lansley over his ‘refusal’ to properly consult with the public on proposals in the White Paper, which was published last month. <
